I relay because cancer has impacted my life. My aunt was diagnosed with leukemia. She had to go to the hospital, and stayed there for 2-3 years. It was hard for my cousins, being so young, and for my uncle. My grandma was helping my uncle out, by taking care of the kids through the years. One day something really unfortunate happened. The doctor told us that my aunt was going to die. Cancer has taken control of her and nothing could help it. May 23, 2015, my aunt took her last breaths.
Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal (not normal) cells in a specific part of the body. If you do have cancer cells they will spread throughout that one part your body quickly and you can see the affects within a week. Symptoms can include pain in that one spot of the body frequently or you can feel that something is wrong with that area. (If one part of your body hurts for more than a week [not including bones] see a doctor.) Cancer is hereditary but not contagious. Some cancers can include lung cancer, breast cancer, bladder cancer, leukemia, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, and brain tumors can be cancerous as well as so many additional types of cancers out there. Not all cancers can be cured, though.
There are 4 stages of cancer. Stage 1 usually means that a cancer is approximately small and held within the organ it formed in. Stage 2 usually means the cancer has not begun to advance into its surrounding tissue but the tumor has grown more than in stage 1. Stage 3 usually means the cancer grew larger. It may have started to advance into the neighboring tissues. Stage 4 means the cancer has advanced further from where it started, possibly to another body organ. This is also called secondary or metastatic (the spread of cancer cells to new areas of the body) cancer. So many people get diagnosed with cancer but don’t make it because of how strong cancer can get. Each year 12.7 MILLION people are diagnosed with cancer meanwhile, 7.6 MILLION people die from Cancer.
An American Cancer Society, called Relay for Life, raises money to help find a cure for cancer. Relay for life wants more survivors from cancer than deaths. Relay for life has a fundraising event, called Relay Field Day, every June. You can bring anybody that you wish, to support relay for life, and the researchers for all their hard work to trying to find a cure for cancer. There are many events/games at relay field day. One of the events includes a luminary ceremony. The luminary ceremony is where people put candles in paper bags to honor survivors and remember the ones that passed due to cancer. You can sign up for relay for life and get any notifications about events at www.relayforlife.com. You can also donate money to help researchers and their study’s to find the cure.
Do your part to save someone’s life!!!!!
